Collages Photoshopped

For some reason the colours have come out a bit weird on the blog!!
...maybe use these as textures in Cinema 4D to cover the conker??

.

Collage work

Struggled more than I thought I would doing this collage, trying to merge a geometric shape with a naturally created object.

Soft Spikes

The soft stage the conker is in before the

tough spikes/exterior is formed.

Strokes and Outlines

Created outlines/strokes of the conker spikes but using the skin/shell randomly positioned, I could use this within an animation

Spike Animation 2

Spike Animation

Cinema 4d

Had a go at making a simple spiky ball to resemble the conker outer shell in Cinema 4d, hopefully try and animate it:

Reform

Decided to use a CONKER as my object for the Reform brief.

The spikes I can visualise as nature intended repelling/armouring itself protecting the inside, at the same time I can see it morphing/clinging onto another object or maybe a bit of both and making an interesting Hybrid.

I've added a few photos but don't know which I'll use.

FMP London Show 09 'Expanding Time'

MOTHER - tears of a clown

The worry, sleepless nights, pain a mother goes through and yet always has plenty more to give. To entertain and smile, the real sadness/hardship masked.

Expanding Time Lightboxes

The aim of this project in brief, was to develop my thinking behind TIME, do we need it, why do we rely on it, does it help as much as hamper our systematic, controlling day to day life. This project partly stemmed from my mentor, guide, Mu’allim (arabic teacher) who after dedicating ten years of his life teaching me Arabic, a couple of years ago passed away. I seem to recall a friend saying, “its only a temporary pause”, you will meet him again, which was so true (the pause part), this mean’t I was playing and I too will be paused and stopped. Was this the reason we focus so much on trying to get as much out of time as possible, nearly all gadgets, inventions, technological advances, has one underlining objective, less ‘make ready and down time’ equals more production, inevitably this equals to more time, more time - more money and so on the next thing you know you’ve joined the rat race, on that wheel round and round, the faster you go, the less time.

To initiate the project I started researching Arabic calligraphy in more depth, in particular I found the Cursive and Kufic styles both visually and conceptually interesting. I wanted to some how explore the division between text and image and bring them together. The calligraphers that influenced me most were Hassan Massoudy, Samir Malik and Brody Neuenschwander, who all had one aim, create beautiful calligraphy but were so different in the way they executed their distinctive styles. Jackson Pollock was also thrown into the mix, who “wanted no physical constraints or boundaries to hinder or limit his paintings” and “wanted to express his feelings rather than illustrate them” this I could relate to.

The narrative behind my main piece [Expanding Time] is how we can control time to a certain extent but underneath our chained timeframes there is chaos, mayhem we will naturally be forced to disengage, the heart will have a rhythmic beat and rest, the eyes will need to blink and open, are we in control? are we in synch? If so, for how long?
